And there's a knock on the door...! - A concert review by Katrin Wagner:
Concert number 66 and
my "Golden Pete concert" - 50 SAILOR concerts with
Peter Lincoln - as well as the 6th birthday of my SAILOR
homepage. Something to celebrate?!:
The day starts quite early, as I drive to Karsten to pick him up
and meet our SAILOR-friend Christel there. Unfortunately,
Christel, who has been lucky to get the day off at the very last
minute, has a little accident just a few minutes away from us in
Kassel which damages her car in the front. It's not too
seriously, but of course causes her some trouble before we can
finally meet and continue the journey to Dresden together.
It's very rainy, but despite the weather and a brief stop at our
favourite fast food (hi R.! ;-)) restaurant at the
motorway we arrive at the hotel (the same one as in June 2001
where we've enjoyed the most special after-show-party ever!) in
Dresden at about 4 pm. As we are just about to get ready for the
concert, another unexpected accident happens. Karsten bumps into
a glass door at the main entrance of the hotel, thinking it is
open, and hurts his nose so that we all have to drive to the
nearby hospital to see whether his nose is broken. Fortunately,
this is not the case and so we return to the hotel about an hour
later and get ready for the concert.
As we are just about to leave we meet Phil at the lobby and he
takes some time to talk to us about the long awaited release of
"Buried Treasure" (which will happen "soon",
as you've probably all guessed by now ;-)). Afterwards we drive
to the venue. Today we can leave the car at a special parking
section and take a shuttle car to the venue itself. There, we
first watch the performance of Jimmy Somerville (great!) and then
check out the marvellous catering while Opus perform and before
it's time for SAILOR.
A few minutes before the show we also meet Rob, Grant and Peter
behind the stage and say hello. Then we watch the first couple of
SAILOR songs from behind and take photos; afterwards we go to the
right side of the stage (next to Peter) to watch the second half
of their set and take some more photos from another perspective.
The audience is in a very good mood, sings along loudly to all
their songs and is really enjoying their show.
After the "Full Monty", SAILOR are busy signing
autographs at the merchandise section, while we watch the first
bit of the show of Karat, a famous German band, with their new
singer who's the son of the former singer who has died recently.
They are very good too.
At this point very special thanks to all the guys at R.SA radio -
this was a very very well organised event!
Back at the hotel we meet SAILOR at the bar again, as well as
many of the other bands (including Paul Young, whose performance
we have unfortunately missed), to talk and have a few drinks.
The next morning starts with the usual breakfast chaos, followed
by the usual packing chaos and the checking out and saying
goodbye chaos, before SAILOR drive to their next show in
Schwarzenberg, and Karsten, Christel and I drive back home.
SAILOR hope for good weather in Schwarzenberg today, as it has
rained heavily at their last show there in June 2001. But a
couple of hours later somewhere on our way back to Kassel we are
informed that it is "pissing down" by a very reliable
source... Shame! We hope you will have yet another marvellous
show there, no matter what the weather is like, boys!!
See you in town...

A concert review by Karsten Wagner:
Ahoy out there!
This is "demolition man" Cap K speakin' to you.
On the 14 May 2005, Christel arrived in Kassel for a trip to
Dresden with sister Katrin and me. Sadly she had a car-accident
in our hometown Kassel, and her car looked not so nice
anymore :-o . But we 3 SAILORs went on the road with Katrin's car
to drive the long way to Dresden again. As always with a
short stop at our favourite fast-food-restaurant at the old
border.
After some hours we arrived in Dresden and found the hotel again
where we stayed ~4 years ago, and where we had the best
after-show-party ever. After the check in (SAILOR were there
already, in the bar beside the hotel) I decided to buy some
things in a supermarket on the other side of the road. Coming out
of the elevator, I went straight to the front of the hotel
(that's what I thought) but > BOOM > there was a
glass-window... and Cap K was nearly knocked-out! So, sister,
Christel and me had to drive to the hospital, and after about an
1 hour we knew: Cap K is still alive and halfway ready for the
concert, and we went to the venue with a shuttle-car of the
radio-colleagues, had a nice meal backstage, and we took
many nice photos of SAILOR and some of the other bands.
"Marvellous"!
SAILOR had a great gig, the audience went nuts in the nice
auditorium. Later in the hotel we had some nice talks
with SAILOR and some other bands.... and Cap K was one
of the last guys that went to bed. lol ~~~
Next morning all came to the hotel-lobby with sunglasses (lol). ~
We went on the motorway again again > direction: Kassel >
and the last thing we heard from 4 SAILORs on a different
motorway in Germany to the next gig in Schwarzenberg where they
had hoped the weather to be nice was: "pissing
down" (means: it's raining) lol
Nothing more to say...
