It's my 50th
concert... Karsten, Christel and I leave at 9.45 am. On the first
half of our way to Erfurt it rains so much that we can hardly see
the streets. Very encouraging, especially because today's show is
going to be an open air event...! Shortly before Erfurt the rain suddenly stops, so
that we arrive at our very favourite hotel just in time, at 1 pm.
Ten minutes later SAILOR arrive at the hotel too, accompanied by
Grant's wife Michelle and Phil's wife Ann. We welcome each other,
then SAILOR go to the soundcheck. A few minutes later we also
drive to the area where the open air concert will take place.
Meanwhile it's 3 pm, and the concert will start at 5 pm. So the
area is still quite empty. We place ourselves in the
first row in front of the stage and watch SAILOR's soundcheck.
Fortunately the weather is much better now.
The concert starts at 5 pm. During the first song of the first
band, Vital, it starts raining again.
At 6 pm it's finally time for SAILOR, and suddenly the weather
gets a little better again. They do a marvellous show. Rob makes
a lovely German announcement for "The Secretary",
saying that this song is for me because this concert is my 50th
SAILOR concert. (Thanks a lot!!)
After this great show Karsten, Christel and I leave the show and
get back to the hotel. As usual there is no bar, so that we have
brought our own drinks etc. When SAILOR arrive at the hotel at 11
pm everything is ready for a nice "after-show-party" at
the hotel.
We spend a nice evening (or night!?) with Rob, Peter, Grant (or
as some people call him "Ivan the Dirty"), Michelle and
Graham and drink the bottle of champagne which Rob gave me
because of my SAILOR concert anniversary (And again: many
thanks!!). Phil and Ann also join us a little later.
At 1.30 am we all go to bed. The next morning we all have to get
up at 6 am. Breakfast with SAILOR at 7 am, photos at 7.50 am and
leaving at 8 am because they are going to have a 6 hour drive to
Rostock, where they will perform at 2 pm... Marvellous!!

Katrin, Christel and
I started on Saturday at Kassel: 9.45 am in the morning to reach
Erfurt early this day! The festival was planned for 15 pm. After
a drive on the motorway with very much rain (sometimes, we saw
nearly nothing), we reached Erfurt safely, and found back again
the hotel, where SAILOR stayed for the 4th time. There's no bar
inside, we knew that, so we brought something to drink and to eat
for the boys, the whole crew (Michelle, Grant's wife and Ann,
Phil's wife were there too) and for us. This was for the
Aftershow-party ;-)
We had to wait at the reception because our room was not ready.
After this was ok. we drove to the Thüringenpark, where the
concert "Traumzeit" (Dreamtime) happened. We arrived,
as SAILOR did their soundcheck, and stayed there until 18 pm,
when they started their gig, as the 2nd band.
As ever, this was a goooood gig ;-) Rob did an announcement,
saying that this is the 50th gig for a girl in the first row
(Katrin) :-) .
Back in the hotel, I lost our room-key, but Christel luckily
found it. At the reception I met Manfred Mann, he was on that
festival too, he had a conversation with the reception-girl,
saying that he has his own blanket with him, so they had to put a
clean sheet on..... funny chapter of that evening *g*.
Soon we started the hotel-party, with Grant ("Ivan der
Schmutzige" *ggg*), Michelle, Peter, Rob, Graham. The others
joined in later... Always fun, to talk, hear older SAILOR-songs,
have some drinks...
Early in the morning we decided to use our hotel-rooms for a
short time, and then meetup soon again to have breakfast. After
that, we took some new band-pictures from and with us and SAILOR.
SAILOR drove to another show in Rostock, and we drove back to
Kassel.

Reviews from the newspapers "Thüringer Landeszeitung" and "Thüringer Allgemeine": Big
party at the open air festival (...) Just in time it nearly stopped raining for the first stars of the evening, the British band "SAILOR", and the voices of the audience also got louder again. Their hits like "A Glass Of Champagne" were celebrated as well as cover versions from Culture Club and other bands. The visitors who have been able to see a SAILOR show in the past might have noticed that their new repertoire is much more colourful. Meanwhile the four guys have created a whole show for their gigs. The special highlight of their show is a strip-performance which was very entertaining for everyone. The text under the
photo of SAILOR: Time
to dream Perfect dreamtime: More than 10.000 fans went to see the live performances of the great rock legends last weekend in Erfurt. (...) The visitors' ears were caressed with music's best: After Vital, the veterans from SAILOR started their great show. SAILOR is one of the most entertaining and innovative bands of the 70's. Their trademark: they use unusual instruments like Nickelodeon, madoline, accordeon or a bell. Their hits "Girls Girls Girls" and "A Glass Of Champagne" made the band world-famous. |
