Ein Konzertbericht von James McCarraher:

Sailor have never played Woking before. It turned out to be a delightful, intimate and exhilarating evening, filled with laughter and broad smiles.
The Sailor fans were out in force but the difference this evening was that the majority of the audience had never seen Sailor before – they were in for a treat.
Prior to the show, Henry, Ollie, Grant and I did a live radio interview for The Charlie Crocker Radio Show which went out across seven counties. Charlie’s first gig happened to be a Sailor concert in Brighton.
Unusually, the show was split into two halves. I proudly introduced the band at nine o’clock and they ripped through a blistering set. Henry took over as compére for the evening, with some delightful and very witty banter. He introduced a ‘guess the weight of the band’ competition which included a weigh-in live on stage. (*For anyone who is interested, the combined weight was 52 stone with Grant making up just 11 stone of that figure (you should eat more Mr Serpell!))
He also presented a gift to my Godchild, Maxine, who melted the hearts of all that were present.
It is noteworthy too that this was Ollie’s first UK show – he did not disappoint and the songs soared with the benefit of his glorious voice backed by the usual fabulous harmonies. The set opened with ‘Champagne’ and included ‘Old Nick’ and La Cumbia – which was extended for an impromptu conga chain!
The second half kicked off at 10.30. La Cumbia was reprised for another conga line. They also played a glorious and very tasteful version of ‘Sailing’ and the wonderfully daft ‘Woolly Bully’. Henry gave out prizes to the children in the audience.
The encore? Georg joined the band on stage for a reprise of ‘Champagne’.
Thank you boys – you were magnificent.
I would like to thank the following people for making Friday 8th December one of the happiest days of my life (the grin will need to be surgically removed!):
