Oliver Marsh to leave ...
I have
just been informed that Oliver Marsh has decided to leave
SAILOR in the New Year in order to pursue his career in
opera.
As a result of this, the SAILOR concert in Milton Keynes
(UK) this Saturday will be Oliver's last performance with
the band.
So any UK fans who have yet to buy tickets, try to make
it to this event as it will be a very special one for
Oliver, Henry, Phil and Grant, and they'd love to see you
there.
We wish Oliver all the very best and thank him for 26
great months of SAILOR music and fun.
We will all miss that incredible voice.
If you go to
Milton Keynes this Saturday, have fun and make sure that
it will be a marvellous SAILOR's night on the town (as
ever at SAILOR shows!) and show them your support.
Concert reports and photos are welcome!

and SAILOR-greetings,

News
from Phil...
Some days ago, Phil Pickett sent me the
following news. Here's what he said:
"Hi
Katrin
Thought you - and some of our fans would like to see a
video which is was delivered to Gordon Brown at 10
Downing Street on behalf of the 40.000 musicians in the
UK - and support us please!
I would like our fans to write to their MPs and call on
the UK government to back the Directive on Copyright
Reform (extending period for copyright earnings for
performing musicians from 50 years to 95 years) like
their brothers and sisters in Germany, France, USA, EU
and many other places in the world.
It will also be on my website - www.philpickett.com together with a new blog entry
about an amazing day at Abbey Road where the Beatles
recorded all their music.
Click here to view the video message: http://www.ppluk.com/fairplay.
Enjoy!
Best wishes,
Phil Pickett"
After ten
years of saying "maybe" and "soon",
German music magazine "Good Times" has finally
published a big article about SAILOR in issue 5-2008.
Title is "Neue Kreuzfahrt - frische Besatzung",
meaning "new cruise - fresh crew".
If anybody's interested, the magazine can be ordered via www.goodtimes-magazin.de.

03 July 2008:
Steyr
to Slovakia - A journey report by Grant Serpell
Dear Everyone
Katrin asked me to write about our last trip to Bad
Segeberg. Unfortunately, I was very busy at the time so I
let her down. However, our concerts on 27th and 28th June
were rather more interesting and maybe warrant a small
report.
The trip started in a routine way with a flight to
Vienna, but things began to go wrong when we were met by
a man who spoke no English with a car that would hold us,
but not our baggage.
After much sign language and mime we managed to get a van
and driver to take the gear. Mark, our engineer, kindly
offered to accompany the gear and off we set for Steyr.
Well, not really. We had to brave the traffic of Ring and
Gurtel etc to pick up the representative of our agent.
This only took one and a half hours so now we were on our
way with six people in a small Opel (I believe was the
"Fruit").
The driver had a unique style which included much use of
his mobile phone and the ability to steer at 145 kph with
just two fingers resting lightly on the wheel. I politely
asked if he minded holding onto the steering wheel, which
he did, but then decided to drive faster.
Henry asked him to slow down so he now limited his
performance to the inside and middle lane where he tried
to force any innocent offenders out of his way by driving
very close to them. The high spot of his repertoire in
this part of the journey was to use his mobile while we
were about two metres behind a Feurwehr vehicle.
We survived the motorway and then he came up with his
"piece de resistance" by changing down to
overtake while using his mobile -- I can only guess
at what piece of his anatomy he was steering with.
We at last reached Steyr and immediately requested that
we never see this man again.
We related the events to Mark, who was in the other
vehicle, expecting him to exude sympathy for us. Not the
case -- his driver, in the midst of a thunderstorm,
missed the exit for Steyr but still tried to turn off,
resulting in the van travelling sideways along the
motorway for about 200 metres. Afterwards he told Mark
that everything was OK as his God protected him -- he
failed to mention who was meant to protect Mark!
Great hotel, great crew, great gig -- about 3000 people
for a town festival.
We played for 85 minutes -- our second longest ever and
thoroughly enjoyed it.
On Saturday we drove to Slovakia with strict instructions
not to excede 120 kph.
Great hotel again in Piestany, right next to a
river, so I went fish spotting and saw a local man catch
a bream and I also saw some large barbel. -- I know this
is of no interest to you so I will spare you any info
about the golf course on the other side of the river.
The gig was about 20 minutes away and was called Topfest.
This was a typical rock festival with 20,000 young
Slovakians.
In the dressing room there was a sheet showing who was
playing. It did not mention us but did show that SLAYER
were playing.
At this point I must point out that about 4 1/2 years ago
we were booked to play in Salzburg but the gig was
cancelled. As it is such a lovely city we went
anyway and while walking around the city saw a poster for
the cancelled show. The interesting and relevant point is
that we were billed as SLAYER, a band in a slightly
different part of the musical spectrum.
Due to this previous experience I had a sudden dread that
we were to perform to 20,000 people who were expecting to
see Slayer and not SAILOR.
I quickly found the promoter who assured me that they had
played on the previous night and that the festival
included many types of band.
Anyway the gig was really great. A good reception and we
played for just over an hour.
If my language skills had been more sophisticated I would
love to have asked how 16 year old Slovakians react to a
64 year old man pretending to do a striptease.
On second thoughts, maybe I wouldn't.
We celebrated what we felt was a successful trip back at
the hotel.
I was poured a glass of red and when I tasted it I
thought that Mark had swapped it for a Jack Daniels and
Coke as it tasted so weird; but no, it was the red wine
from the dressing room.
Our best wishes to all our loyal fans out there in
SAILORland. Hope to see you all soon at a gig.

"Traffic
Jam - Sound And Vision" to be released on Angel Air...
In
August 2008, Angel Air will release a CD/DVD set called
"Traffic Jam - Sound And Vision"
(catalogue number: Angel Air SJPCD267).
The set will
include a CD with 19 songs from SAILOR's "Buried
Treasure"/"Treasure Trove" anthology (a
mix of both orginal CDs) - as well as SAILOR's DVD "Pirate Copy -
SAILOR Live In Concert" from High Wycombe (UK) 2002 - but this time in the NTSC all
regions format.
The songs on the CD feature the SAILORs in various
band-line-ups.
The line-up of SAILOR on the DVD is Peter Lincoln
(guitars, lead vocals), Grant Serpell (drums, percussion,
vocals), Phil Pickett (bass Nickelodeon, vocals, lead
vocals on "Mack The Knife") and Rob Alderton
(Nickelodeon, accordion, vocals, lead vocals on
"Josephine Baker").
The set includes the following songs: CD: Open Up The Door, Changes, Heart Of The Matter,
Traffic Jam, Panama, Stereotype, Perfect Time, Brag Brag
Brag, The Street, My Parachute, Blame It On The Soft
Spot, The Natureman, The Old Nickelodeon Sound, Stay The
Night, Jacaranda, Tomorrow, Lost My Mode, A Glass of
Champagne, Girls Girls Girls DVD: A Glass Of Champagne, One Drink Too Many, Blame
It On The Soft Spot, Sailor, Mack The Knife, Josephine
Baker, Vera From Veracruz, Jacaranda, Traffic Jam, Karma
Chameleon, Panama, The Secretary, Girls Girls Girls, La
Cumbia, The Frozen Man, Give Me Shakespeare, The Old
Nickelodeon Sound, A Glass Of Champagne (Reprise), 1812 /
Grant's Moment, The Full Monty (In The Navy / Hot Stuff),
Girls Girls Girls (Reprise), Latin Medley (La Bamba /
Volare / Bamboleyo)
BONUS FEATURES: Band documentary with in depth
interviews with all band members, History of SAILOR,
Three bonus tracks recorded "unplugged".
Personally I as the webmaster
can only wonder who mixed the songs for the CD in this set and
why because they won't give anybody an insight on the real SAILOR
and they belong to the original anthology and have their own
stories in that context. But if you haven't got the SAILOR DVD
yet because you needed NTSC you shouldn't miss out on this now!
It will bring you a marvellous memorable concert you shouldn't
miss!

Forum /
Guestbook "The Harbour Bar"
Unfortunately,
the Forum "The Harbour Bar" had to be closed
down. It was meant to be a place for SAILOR fans to meet,
ask questions and exchange opinions etc. and I wanted
everybody to be able to write there. Due to a LOT of
spam-entries I had to restrict the forum. All forum parts
could still be seen by everybody, but only registered
members could post. Registration was free, of course. But
from then on, hardly anybody left messages at the forum
any more, apart from 5 or 6 fans. And still, about 100 -
150 spammers (or spam-robots) signed up every single day,
trying to create an account. I had to delete each one of
them by hand which took a lot of time.
So, due to all this, we're now back to the very original
idea... the Guestbook
"The Harbour Bar". You can of course sign the
guestbook with all your comments, thoughts and questions
about SAILOR and all related topics or if you just want
to drop us a line.

"Girls Girls Girls" by
Free Bears
The band "Free
Bears" has recorded a great new cover version of
"Girls Girls Girls" which will be released on
11 April 2008.
This is what the Free
Bears say:
"Back in the 70s this
has been a No 1 Smash-Hit by SAILOR which really
everybody knows from the northpole down to Tazmania has
been picked up, assimilated and refreshed without losing
the quite nostalgic charme of the song. We simply built
in a little rock..n..roll switch, a lot of fun and
passion just make it a typical FREE BEARS song. Even
Georg Kajanus, formerly SAILOR mastermind and songwriter
gave his okay to this version and said: This does justice
to the meaning of the song!
Place your order at Amazon or get the song as download
at: AOL, I-Tunes, Musicload etc...
Have fun and a good time with that song."
I have
updated the Concert Photos, Reviews, Videos...-section so that
it's now easier to see which pages about the concerts of
all the various SAILOR line-ups show you concert photos,
videos and/or reports. There
is also new video material. You can see live and TV
videos of all the SAILOR line-ups from the 1970s
until today. Have a look... ;-)
